Just Asking-Courtesy of Jan's Blog
OFW's are dubbed as the modern day heroes. The government always points out the fact that OFW's bring in millions of dollars in remittances to the country that help raise our economy and I'd say therefore that OFW's deserve attention and proper care.
Going to the POEA for processing the papers should be an encouragement for the OFW's but no, when they get there, most of the staff are grumpy and as if it is the OFW's fault that they are confused of the queuing system there or what certain payments are for. That's not to mention the very hot building- and many of the staff have the face to act irritated when they are the ones enjoying the air-conditioned rooms which for all they know are being paid for by the OFW's remittances so yeah, a little smile from them or a little more courtesy would be in order.
This additional service also of expediting papers that is announced right away at the door in the processing room- they have the guts to call it service when they only do it for you when you pay. I mean, come on, the fact that they can expedite papers when paid means that there is a way to actually speed up the processing of OFW Documents. I repeat: there is a way to expedite the process after all. How can it not be applicable for the general people there? So ok, they deliver it at your door but that should be the only charge to be paid which I think would be a lot less than what they are asking for. I can't keep myself from thinking sometimes if this is just another ploy to get more money from OFW's especially those from the provinces who would want to save from the cost of living in the city for two to three days just going back and forth when they could receive it for a day- if only they pay, another thing and I'm not alone in this observation, the line in the non- expedite, non- paying area seemed to inch its way a little slower since this "service" came. And they could not tell us that they did not force it on us because in a way, they did. This way OFW's would resort to it just so they could spend more time at home which should be the case. In a way also, OFW's leave the office thanking them but in their minds are left thinking if it is really fair. After all, we OFW's go home for a much needed vacation and quality time with our families that we longed for.
